The development of the power generation system by K Green Energy began in June 2009.
1. Structural design and prototyping of the generator and river testing of a prototype unit
In the first phase, a structural design prototype of the generator was created, and a test unit was experimented within a river. With permission from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, three experiments were conducted in the upper reaches of the Arakawa River, and the generator’s structure was finalized.
- 1st experiment date: December 16, 2009
- 2nd experiment date: December 25, 2009
- 3rd experiment date: January 21, 2010
2. Expanded-scale structural and strength testing of the generator impellers
In the second phase, the scale was increased, and structural and strength tests of the generator impellers were conducted using the Musashi canal.
Experiment date: August 6, 2011
3. Improvement experiments on the rotor and variable-pitch blades to enhance power generation efficiency
In the third phase, improvement experiments on the rotor and variable-pitch blades were conducted to increase power generation efficiency. These tests were carried out in a water tank at the National Maritime Research Institute under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Experiment dates: May 1 and May 2, 2012
4. Verification testing to maximize power generation efficiency
In the fourth phase, final verification tests were conducted to confirm the maximum achievable power generation efficiency. These tests were carried out in a water tank at the Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Akishima Research Center. The system achieved 37% of the theoretical maximum power output.
Witnessed by Professor Hiroshi Kagemoto (Fluid Dynamics and Naval Architecture), Specially Appointed Professor, Graduate School of the University of Tokyo
Experiment dates: October 16 and October 17, 2014
Patent Acquisition
Unlike conventional power generation systems, K Green Energy’s power generation system is entirely based on its unique design, and patents have been obtained in relevant countries.
